How Turning Point Action Is Building Grassroots Engagement Across Mohave County THE MOHAVE INSIDER MOHAVE COUNTY NEWS • POLITICS • COMMUNITY STAY INFORMED. STAY INVOLVED.

COMMUNITY FEATURE | MOHAVE COUNTY, ARIZONA

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ — Civic engagement starts with people willing to show up, share resources, answer questions, and encourage their neighbors to become involved. In Mohave County, Turning Point Action and its grassroots network are doing the work needed to bring that engagement directly into our communities.

Turning Point Action is a national conservative grassroots organization focused on voter engagement, activism, and organizing. Locally, that mission becomes personal. It means connecting with residents, building relationships, providing resources, registering voters, and helping people understand how they can participate in the political process.

One of the people helping make that happen in Mohave County is Tex Polosky.

MORE THAN POLITICS — BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Tex has become a familiar and positive presence for people involved with Turning Point Action in Mohave County.

Grassroots organizing isn’t always easy. Politics brings criticism, negativity, disagreements, and sometimes people who would rather tear down the work than recognize the effort happening behind the scenes.

Despite that negativity, Tex (Turning Point Action Mohave County Manager) and his team continue to give their all.

They continue showing up. They continue to talk with voters, support volunteers, provide resources, attend events, and encourage residents to get involved.

Tex is a great guy who brings a personal approach to grassroots organizing. He is approachable, supportive, and willing to help people who want to become more engaged.

It is easy to criticize from the sidelines. It takes considerably more effort to consistently show up and do the work.

Tex and his team continue doing exactly that.

A GROWING COUNTY NEEDS VOTER ENGAGEMENT

Mohave County continues to grow as new residents and families make communities throughout the county their home. But population growth does not automatically translate into voter registration or participation.

When voter registration or participation doesn’t keep pace with a growing population, we should be asking an important question:

How do we reach the people who aren’t participating?

The answer cannot be social media alone.

WE NEED BOOTS ON THE GROUND.

We need organizations willing to knock on doors, attend community events, register eligible voters, provide election resources, recruit volunteers, and have face-to-face conversations with residents.

There may be people who recently moved and need to update their registration, residents who have never registered, or people who simply don’t know where to start.

Organizations like Turning Point Action can help bridge that gap.

TURNING POINT ACTION MOHAVE COUNTY MOMS COALITION

The Turning Point Action Mohave County Moms Coalition is another example of how grassroots organizing can reach specific parts of our community.

The Moms Coalition gives mothers and families an opportunity to connect, share resources, participate in grassroots activities, and become more involved with issues affecting their communities.

Parents have a significant stake in decisions involving education, public safety, the economy, taxes, families, and the future of their communities.

The coalition provides more than political involvement. It can provide community, resources, relationships, and support.

Sometimes civic engagement begins simply because someone invited you to participate.

TURNING POINT FAITH

Bringing Faith Into Community Engagement

Another important part of the broader Turning Point network is Turning Point Faith.

For many people in Mohave County, faith is an important part of their families and communities. Turning Point Faith provides another avenue for Christians and churches seeking to become more informed and engaged with issues affecting their communities.

Faith communities have historically played significant roles in American civic life. Churches bring people together, provide community resources, support families, help neighbors in difficult circumstances, and encourage people to serve others.

Turning Point Faith seeks to connect faith and civic participation by encouraging Christians to become informed and engaged rather than remaining on the sidelines.

For people whose political involvement is connected to their faith and values, having an organization dedicated to that outreach provides another place to find resources and community.

DIFFERENT GROUPS. ONE GRASSROOTS NETWORK.

That is one of the strengths of what Turning Point is building.

TURNING POINT ACTION: Voter engagement, grassroots organizing, and volunteer outreach.

TURNING POINT ACTION MOHAVE COUNTY MOMS COALITION: Connecting mothers and families with opportunities to participate and become involved.

TURNING POINT FAITH: Engaging faith communities and encouraging Christians to participate in civic life.

Each reaches people differently, but together they create additional opportunities for residents to participate.

That matters in a county as geographically large as Mohave County.

Kingman. Golden Valley. Bullhead City. Lake Havasu City. Colorado City. And communities throughout Mohave County.

All need people willing to get involved.

TURNING POINT IS DOING THE RIGHT THINGS

From our perspective, Turning Point is doing many of the right things in grassroots engagement.

They are organizing.

They are providing resources.

They are working on voter registration.

They are building specialized community groups.

They are reaching families.

They are engaging faith communities.

And most importantly:

THEY ARE PUTTING BOOTS ON THE GROUND.

No organization is going to satisfy everyone, especially in politics. There will always be criticism and disagreements. But disagreement should not prevent us from recognizing people who are willing to put in the work.

Tex and his team continue showing up despite negativity. Volunteers continue giving their time. Local groups continue connecting residents with opportunities to participate.

That type of consistency matters.

ENGAGEMENT DOESN’T END ON ELECTION DAY

Grassroots involvement shouldn’t disappear when an election ends.

Healthy civic engagement includes understanding how to contact elected officials, attending public meetings, following local issues, helping neighbors, volunteering, learning about candidates, and understanding what government is doing.

It also means building relationships within the community.

Turning Point Action, Turning Point Faith, the Mohave County Moms Coalition, Tex, his team, and the volunteers working alongside them are helping build those connections.

KEEP SHOWING UP

Mohave County is growing, and our approach to civic engagement needs to grow with it.

We cannot assume that because our population increases, voter registration and voter participation will automatically follow.

Voter registration requires outreach. Voter participation requires engagement. Faith-based involvement requires relationships. Grassroots movements require people willing to put boots on the ground.

Despite the negativity that often surrounds politics, Tex and his team keep showing up and giving their all.

Turning Point is creating different ways for people to get involved, whether they are voters, parents, volunteers, or members of the faith community.

From voter registration and community resources to the Moms Coalition and Turning Point Faith, these efforts demonstrate what grassroots organizing can look like when people are willing to get out into their communities and do the work.
