Service Before Politics: Lake Havasu City Council Candidate Neil Tinsley Puts Community and Family First
Updated: 2 days ago
From helping stranded motorists during severe storms to building local businesses and raising a family, Neil Tinsley says his commitment to Lake Havasu City goes far beyond an election.
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — When severe storms swept through Lake Havasu City, leaving flooded roadways and stranded motorists, City Council candidate Neil Tinsley says he was once again doing something familiar: helping his neighbors when they needed it most.
For Tinsley, a lifelong Lake Havasu resident, military veteran, business owner, husband and father, public service is not something that begins with a political campaign. It is a responsibility he says he has embraced for years.
Following the storm, Tinsley reflected on the importance of community involvement and stepping forward during difficult circumstances.
“Last night’s storm was another reminder of how quickly things can change here in Lake Havasu,” Tinsley shared in a public statement.
He described assisting people during the flooding while recognizing the first responders, city crews and fellow tow operators who worked to help residents.
But behind his campaign for City Council is another important part of his story: his family.
A Family Rooted in Lake Havasu
Born and raised in Lake Havasu City, Tinsley has spent much of his life building personal and professional roots in the community he now hopes to represent in local government.
As a business owner, he has worked to create opportunities, provide employment and contribute to the local economy. His family’s connection to the towing industry also stretches back to his father, Neil Tinsley Sr., whose business laid the foundation for what became Lakeside Towing under Neil Tinsley II.
Yet beyond the responsibilities of operating a business and pursuing public office, Tinsley is also a dedicated family man.
At the center of that family is his wife, Evelyn Tinsley, an important source of support in his life and someone with her own record of public service.
Evelyn is no stranger to community leadership or local government. She was elected to the Lake Havasu Unified School District Governing Board in 2024, and her current term runs through December 2028.
Her involvement in education and Neil’s pursuit of City Council reflect a household that has chosen to participate directly in the decisions affecting their community.
The Tinsleys are a conservative family whose values emphasize family, personal responsibility, service and community involvement.
While Neil focuses on the challenges facing Lake Havasu City, Evelyn’s role in education offers another connection to issues affecting local parents, students and taxpayers.
Together, their involvement reflects a family with a personal stake in Lake Havasu’s future, not simply as public figures, but as residents raising their family in the city they call home.
A Military Background and a Businessman’s Approach
Tinsley credits his experience in both the military and private business with shaping his understanding of leadership.
His campaign emphasizes responsibility, accountability and a willingness to address challenges directly.
“My years in business and the military have taught me that leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about responsibility, accountability, and getting the job done,” Tinsley stated.
Those experiences are central to the leadership approach he hopes to bring to City Council.
Operating a business requires difficult decisions, financial responsibility, problem-solving and accountability. Military service, meanwhile, places an emphasis on teamwork, discipline and responding under pressure.
Tinsley believes those lessons can translate into local government, particularly as Lake Havasu City faces decisions involving public safety, infrastructure, growth and the needs of residents.
When the Community Needs Help, Actions Matter
The recent storms provided Tinsley with an opportunity to demonstrate the kind of involvement he frequently discusses.
According to his account, he was assisting stranded motorists as storm conditions created dangerous situations on local roads.
His statement also emphasized that community response is never the work of just one person.
He specifically thanked first responders, city crews and fellow towing operators who were helping residents during the severe weather.
In a community where flash flooding can quickly transform ordinary roads into dangerous conditions, the work of emergency personnel and roadside assistance operators can make a significant difference.
Tinsley’s message was centered on a straightforward principle: residents should be able to count on people in their community to step forward when help is needed.
Looking Toward the November Election
Tinsley is one of two candidates appearing on the November 3, 2026, general election ballot for a four-year term on the Lake Havasu City Council.
He faces incumbent Councilmember Jeni Coke, according to the city’s official election information.
His campaign presents his experience as a local business owner, veteran and lifelong resident as qualifications for public office.
For Tinsley, the campaign also represents a personal investment in the place where he grew up, built businesses and now raises his family.
With his wife Evelyn already participating in local educational governance, the Tinsley family has established a presence in the civic life of Lake Havasu City.
The ultimate decision rests with voters, who will determine which candidate they believe is best prepared to address the city’s future.
Service Doesn’t Begin at the Ballot Box
Perhaps the most defining message from Tinsley’s storm response was not about his candidacy, but about the expectations he believes residents should have of their elected representatives.
“Service doesn’t start with getting elected, and it shouldn’t stop once the election is over.”
It is a message that connects his background in military service, his work as a business owner and his commitment to family and community.
For Neil Tinsley, Lake Havasu City is more than a campaign destination. It is his hometown, the place where his family has built its life, and the community he hopes to continue serving in a new capacity.
As election day approaches, voters will have the opportunity to evaluate his experience, priorities and vision alongside those of his opponent.
And for Tinsley, his message remains that meaningful community leadership should be demonstrated through actions, long before a candidate asks for someone’s vote.
