New funding will support additional DUI patrols and five dash-mounted radar units to improve roadway safety throughout Mohave County.

MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been awarded $27,403 in grant funding from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to strengthen traffic enforcement efforts and improve public safety across the county.

Sheriff Doug Schuster announced the funding, which will provide additional resources for deputies to address impaired driving and speeding on county roadways.

Breaking Down the Funding

The $27,403 award will be divided into two key areas:

  • $15,000 for DUI Overtime Enforcement: Funding will allow the Sheriff’s Office to schedule additional deputies during holiday weekends and special events, when increased traffic and impaired driving can create additional safety concerns.

  • $12,403 for Five Dash-Mounted Radar Units: The new equipment will help deputies monitor vehicle speeds, address speeding complaints, and conduct additional traffic enforcement throughout Mohave County.

Targeting Impaired Driving Through Increased Patrols

Driving under the influence continues to be a serious public safety concern, particularly during holidays and major community events.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the additional overtime funding will support proactive DUI enforcement by increasing the number of deputies available to patrol county roadways during designated enforcement periods.

The agency hopes that increased visibility and enforcement will discourage impaired driving, reduce DUI-related incidents, and help protect motorists, passengers, and pedestrians.

Addressing Speeding Complaints Across Mohave County

Speeding remains another concern for residents, particularly in communities where excessive vehicle speeds can create dangerous conditions for families, pedestrians, and other motorists.

The Sheriff’s Office acknowledged that speeding complaints are an ongoing quality-of-life issue for local communities.

With the purchase of five additional dash-mounted radar units, deputies will have more equipment available to identify speeding violations and enforce traffic laws.

The department expects the additional radar equipment to help expand traffic enforcement operations on county roadways, with the goal of reducing speed-related crashes.

A Continued Investment in Public Safety

Mohave County encompasses a large geographic area, with numerous rural communities and roadways that present unique challenges for law enforcement.

Additional traffic enforcement resources can help deputies address roadway safety concerns while continuing their regular patrol responsibilities.

The grant funding represents an investment in both enforcement personnel and equipment, allowing the department to dedicate additional attention to traffic safety during periods of increased activity.

Sheriff Schuster expressed his appreciation to Director Torrez and the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for their continued support of public safety initiatives in Mohave County.

What This Means for Residents

For Mohave County motorists, the new funding means additional DUI enforcement patrols during selected holidays and special events, along with expanded speed-monitoring capabilities on county roads.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that the overall objective is not simply enforcement, but preventing dangerous driving behaviors before they result in injuries or fatalities.

The Mohave Insider encourages residents to remain aware of traffic safety initiatives, drive responsibly, obey posted speed limits, and arrange safe transportation when consuming alcohol.
